"My work has always been based on the Strategy of Need, adapting available materials to create a tangible objects, scenarios, making use of the power of transforming any given means. What I do is usually determined more for what I encounter rather than what I choose. It is the The Power of Transformation, which starts with making use of any materials available, adapting my own skills in the process, to make tangible the "suggestions" of these materials. Like my culture, my work is one of forced integration, no planned transformation. It is the generous touch of the synchronicity and serendipity. Daily visions of life have inspired me but also the human intervention of the landscape (the farming fields, fences, dykes and dry stone walls, the canals, the bridges, the foot paths, the landscaping of the English countryside). By contrast my country is so vast and untouched. There are wild beasts that might have any wanderer for lunch. So, this human intervention of the British landscape, apparently subtle but ever respectful in this crowded island, has struck me as, believe me, quite extraordinary." |
