Berlin, summer 1996.

We review this in summer 2006. 10 years have past and we look at our initial founding event with some distance. Berlin was bankrupt at that time. Art was run down. theatre were closing. Berlin still had not gained back the status of the German capitol, yet.

Politicians did not show any interest in joining efforts led by Josipovici to have local artists paint on the glazed tiles she recovered from the devastated fountain, Ernst Reuter Platz in Berlin. The final art work was sold in charity auctions to raise money for the fountain to be maintained.

Artbust does own some of the original artwork. But Artbust also recognised the potential and tried to capture images of the art work (scans and photos) of the disappearing work. We can do a retrospective display and are proud to present a sort of   "Best of". Or select directly from pages 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12.

I hope you like it. It was one of the rare occasions that Arts moved politics. Please read the related (background) story (in three parts with more links) - as reported by the Artbust founder's own magazine at that time (it reached about 50,000 readers per day at that time) - which will tell you in detail what is and was going on in Berlin, which still considers itself as an Art capitol of the world. We dared to doubt it in this occasion !
