The Ernst Reuther Platz Tiles
Berlin in 1998 realised
it had not enough money to run and maintain its fountains. Berlin
has several. Just Rome is said to have more. The lack of money
was upsetting even the son of the former mayor of Berlin, this
public space was named after. Helping hands came fro artists
living in Berlin, who rescued and used the tiles for artwork,
this way saved a lot of the demolishing costs and by selling
the artwork managed to fund the reconstruction of the fountain.
